Say BOO to the cold and flu

acupuncture and cold flu (6).png

Most people don’t realize that acupuncture can help when you are coming down with a cold or flu. Or even when you are stuck in the middle of the illness acupuncture can help resolve it faster. Studies have shown that that immune boosting hormones can stay elevated for up to three days after receiving acupuncture.

So ideally when you feel a cold or flu coming on you need to get in for a treatment right away. An acupuncture treatment can give your body an extra boost to kick out the bugs before they have the chance to take hold. And if you happen to already be sick acupuncture can help reduce chills and fever, sore throats, coughs and congestion. While doing all of these things it can reduce the number of days that you have to suffer from the symptoms. If your acupuncturist is also an herbalist ask them about the possibility of an herbal formula to help resolve your symptoms.

So if you are getting sick you can still come in if you are up to it!

a great little soup recipe to help you recover faster

Cook this broth as soon you feel a fever coming on, with symptoms of chills and a runny nose:

Green Onion, Garlic and Ginger Soup

  • 2 green onions (use only the white part) cut into several pieces

  • 1 piece of ginger the size of a thumb, cut into slices

  • 2 to 3 cloves of garlic, cut into slices

  • 1 to 2 teaspoons of brown sugar or honey

Put the top three ingredients into a pot and add about 2¼ cups of water. Boil it for 10 minutes and then add the brown sugar or honey. Drink the soup while it is warm or hot. After drinking the soup, curl up into a warm blanket and rest. After a few minutes, you may begin to sweat while your fever and cold symptoms dissipate.

Remember to drink lost of liquids (not sugary ones) and rest.
